Beam Suntory has introduced the rare Bowmore 1969 expression into global travel retail. The launch is the final release in Bowmore’s 50-year old vault collection, which comprises the 1966, 1965 and 1964 expressions.

The limited-edition Bowmore 1969 is now available at London Heathrow Airport and will be released into Amsterdam Schiphol and Istanbul Airports, among other key airport locations later in the year.

Only 339 bottles of the Bowmore 1969 are available globally. The rare single malt has been matured for over five decades and offers a rich, fruity and smoky flavour. The recommended retail price for the bottling is US$42,000.

The liquid was matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads. It blends floral notes with contrasting sweet and citrus flavours that bring a rich warmth to the single malt whisky.

The 46.9% ABV blend features a burnished chestnut colour. On the nose, it offers notes of citrus fruits, honey, vanilla and apple pie. On the palate, it blends almond, lemon, crème caramel, coconut and peat smoke flavours with a long and warming finish.

“The depth of character in this 50 Year Old whisky is mind-blowing,” says Bowmore Distillery Manager David Turner
The Bowmore 1965 is already available in Los Angeles International Airport with a Hainan launch planned soon

“We’re delighted to launch Bowmore 1969 to global travel retail in the coming months so that travellers can experience the liquid gold first-hand,” commented Beam Suntory Marketing Director of Global Travel Retail Manuel González.

“Paired with the Bowmore 1965, the bottles are perfect for collectors, drinkers, and investors alike. They showcase some of the rarest whiskies from the timeless Bowmore distillery and bring a totally new aged expression to the whisky portfolio. They will certainly tantalise both dedicated fans and curious customers to discover the outstanding whiskies.”

The Bowmore 1965 is already available in global travel retail. The liquid was matured for 52 years in the world’s oldest Scotch maturation warehouse, resulting in a refined whisky blend.

Bowmore 1969 is the latest release in Bowmore’s 50 Year Old Vault Collection which comprises the 1966, 1965 and 1964 expressions

The limited-edition expression features the deep flavours and fruit notes that are distinctive to any Bowmore single malt. On the nose it offers rich fruits, sweet bees wax and dark chocolate aromas. On the palate, the liquid tastes like burnt heather, jasmine and dried fruits with a fresh spring flower and dried apricot finish.

It is now available in Los Angeles International Airport and will soon be launched at China Duty Free Group’s Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Hainan. Only 232 bottles of the Bowmore 1965 have been launched globally.

Bowmore Distillery Manager David Turner commented, “The 1960s are truly the defining decade for Bowmore distillery and rightfully these incredible whiskies have become amongst the most admired and revered single malts we’ve ever produced. The depth of character in this 50 Year Old whisky is mind blowing and anyone lucky enough to try this will be tasting an exceptionally scarce part of the Bowmore legacy.”
