Bangalore International Airport Limited adopts shared ‘risk-reward’ commercial terms for ambitious T2 tender programme

INDIA. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), operator of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB/BLR Airport), has adopted a contract model based on “trust, collaboration and sharing of risks and rewards” in inviting bids to develop a world-class destination for shopping, dining and entertainment at the upcoming Terminal 2 set to open in 2022.

BIAL plans to launch tenders for over 100 commercial concepts, including duty free stores, advertising, retail, F&B and other consumer services over the next six to eight months.

The selected brands and operators will work with BIAL in developing a strong brand environment and Sense of Place through unique commercial concepts, innovative retail designs and exclusive product offerings.

Revamped commercial policy to reflect pandemic impact

In adapting to the demands imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, BIAL has revised its commercial policy based on “trust, collaboration and sharing of risks and rewards”, the company noted.

The commercial policy endeavours to support partners during this period and help insulate them from such situations in the future. The financial model is synthesized based on a ‘Progressive Calibration’ strategy – linked to a passenger base – and shall be applicable through the tenure of the contract.

In addition, the tender evaluation strategy is adapted accordingly, giving 60% weightage to technical proposals and 40% to financial proposals.  These efforts are focused on making BLR Airport the most preferred partner in the aviation industry, BIAL said.

T2 is both a dedication to and a reflection of the beautiful city of Bengaluru. The terminal is founded on four pillars: technological leadership; a ‘Terminal in a Garden’; environmental and ecological stewardship; and a celebration of Karnataka’s rich art, heritage and culture.

BIAL said that creating a premium and dynamic retail environment with an immersive digital experience and sensory engagement is the focus. Simultaneously, the mission is to develop BLR Airport as the preferred destination to showcase iconic international brands and concepts – some for the first time in India.

“Our objective is to create an exceptional experience for passengers travelling through BLR Airport, offering an elevated and luxurious environment, with a diverse product mix, great brands and excellent service, while focusing on sustainability and development based on care for the environment,” said BIAL Chief Commercial Officer Kenneth Guldjberg.

The tenders will be uploaded on the e-portal: https://commercial.bialtenders.in/. Interested bidders are requested to check the website for further information on the tender process. In addition, bidders must send an email indicating interest to commercialtender@bialairport.com.
