Bacardi teams up with Gebr. Heinemann for exclusive launch of Craigellachie 37 Year Old

The liquid, which was matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, is limited to 3,012 bottles

INTERNATIONAL. Bacardi Global Travel Retail has partnered with Gebr. Heinemann for the exclusive pre-launch of the Craigellachie 37 Year Old Scotch whisky.

The limited-edition bottle is available exclusively with the retailer from 1 June to 31 July, after which distribution will widen to include Dufry’s store network and selected domestic markets.

The Craigellachie 37 Year Old is a 46.5% ABV, non-chilled filtered Speyside whisky. The liquid was distilled in 1984 and limited to 3,012 bottles. It was first matured in refill casks and finished in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, an additional step that enables Craigellachie’s trademark robust style to shine, said Bacardi. It has an RRP of US$3,245.

The first-fill ex-bourbon casks give the maturing whisky coconut, vanilla and citrus notes, adding depth and complexity

The whisky offers pineapple tarte-tatin, custard, banana bread and soft cereal notes on the nose. On the palate it offers a complex blend of sweetly acidic flavours, mellowed with soft fruits and almonds with a long finish.

The Craigellachie Distillery was founded in 1891 by Peter Machie and Alexander Edwards. Its signature robust style of Speyside whisky is a result of the distillery’s old-fashioned worm tub condensers.

“We are delighted to add this exceptional whisky exclusively to our spectacular assortment,” commented Gebr. Heinemann Director Purchasing LTC Ruediger Stelkens. “With its distinctive character, this Craigellachie is predestined to capturing the hearts of whisky connoisseurs and collectors worldwide. This has been made possible thanks to our strong and trusted partnership with Bacardi Global Travel Retail.”

“Craigellachie has always been a bold and brooding malt and this finish in first-fill bourbon casks elevates the signature style of this wonderfully eccentric distillery,” added Bacardi Global Travel Retail Global Head of Marketing Ignacio Vazquez.

“First-fill casks are the most active type and result in quicker maturation, adding a very important contribution to the final flavour of the whisky. I am confident travellers will appreciate what a truly special and unique whisky Craigellachie 37 Year Old represents.” ✈
