Áreas unveils new food & beverage offer at Madrid Barajas Airport

SPAIN. Food & beverage operator Ãreas has opened 75% of the space secured in its major tender victory at Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport last year, and aims to complete the remaining concepts by the end of 2014.

The company will manage 47 outlets and 27 brands under the €1.48 billion contract, and said concepts opened already represent “a great leap forward in both quality and diversity”.

New brands include Kirei by Kabuki (Japanese cuisine), Deli&Cia (trendy grab and go), La Mary (Mediterranean cuisine), Pepito Grillo (decorated by well-known interior designer Sandra Tarruella), Eating Point and artisan bakery SantaGloria.

Ãreas said the reception to Japanese concept Kirei by Kabuki had been so successful that another opening is planned at Terminal 1 by the end of the year.

Also open are the first ever Paul luxury sandwich shop at a Spanish airport, Madrid Barajas’ first ham-themed restaurant La Bellota Sabores Ibéricos and Espacevian, a healthy food concept under the Evian mineral water brand.

Other brands already operating include Starbucks, Urban Grill, MasQMenos, Burger King, Briciole, Udon, Ãndele, 100 Montaditos, Espression Lavazza, Rodilla, Caffriccio, Carling, Mahoudrid and Mahou Sports Bar.

The remaining outlets, Fly&Fishhh! and Gastrohub will also open by the end of the year – completing Ãreas’ €25 million investment in outlets it operates under the ten-year contract.

The approach we are taking to this challenge is based on an innovative strategy that consists of adapting the commercial model of a big city centre to the airport facilities – with an original, high quality and varied offer for each passenger.”

Last year Ãreas captured the 10-year concession of for F&B at Madrid Barajas; a contract valued at €1.48 billion in sales.
