Areas brings first food truck concept to Barcelona Airport

SPAIN. Food & beverage specialist Areas has opened the first food truck at Barcelona El Prat Airport, tapping into the popularity of street food in Spain. The unit trades under the Dots Bakery name and offers cronuts, bagels, smoothies, and gluten-free products.

Areas has previously launched a number of trucks at the travel plazas it manages along Spanish highways and it also recently opened its first food truck at Palma de Mallorca Airport.

The company will also manage a new craft bakery under the Santagloria name; that outlet will open this summer. It relies, said Areas, on high quality artisanal ingredients with a menu tailored to travellers.

Both outlets are located in Terminal 2 covering a combined 450sq m. The concessions run for six years.

Areas CEO for Spain, Portugal, and Latin America Oscar Vela said: “This new contract award shores up our commitment to innovation, and thanks to our know-how we can respond to new restaurant trends and propose groundbreaking, quality offers in the service of travellers.”

These two new outlets join those that Areas already operates at El Prat Airport, which include Burger King, Deli&Cia, The Market, Story Store and Sibarium.
