Areas adds to the dining mix at Philadelphia International with two new openings

USA. MarketPlace PHL, which manages the retail programme at Philadelphia International Airport, has awarded Areas a contract to operate two dining spaces.

The food & beverage company will open national brand California Pizza Kitchen and local eatery Bud & Marilyn’s at Philadelphia International.

Areas is the airport catering, railways and motorway arm of French group Elior, and has been the subject of acquisition speculation in the past few months.

Local heritage: Bud & Marilyn’s is a full‐service restaurant that aims to offer travellers chef-prepared classics at an affordable cost.

The new dining spaces will open this year. Both will feature grab & go components and full bars.

California Pizza Kitchen offers a family-friendly menu, with a combination of small plates, appetisers, pastas, pizzas, salads and sweet treats.

Bud & Marilyn celebrates American classics and puts the focus on “simple, well-prepared comfort foods”. The concept was created by Chef Marcie Turney and business partner Valerie Safran. It is described as “an ode of sorts to her grandparent’s popular, but now-closed, restaurant that she grew up in back in Ripon, WI”. The restaurant is named after them.

“We are excited to be at Philadelphia International – an airport so invested in the passenger experience,” said Areas’ US CEO Sergio Rodriguez. “These two restaurants, Bud & Marilyn’s and California Pizza Kitchen, are poised to complement the guest as a priority, and deliver a world class experience.”

MarketPlace PHL Vice President and General Manager Mel Hannah commented: “[We] couldn’t be more eager to welcome these two new eateries to our airport. California Pizza Kitchen is a strong recognisable brand and Bud & Marilyn’s is a local favourite; two great options that embody our effort to please each traveller’s taste.”
