INTERNATIONAL. The Moodie Davitt Report is proud to announce a special publication to mark 70 years of duty free & travel retail in 2017. The world’s first airport duty free store opened at Shannon Airport in 1947.
The anniversary edition, which will appear in both print and digital formats, will be published in September. It will cover many of the milestones in travel retail history, with contributions and commentary from industry leaders about the business today and tomorrow.
The Moodie Davitt Report President Dermot Davitt said: “We are proud to announce this commemorative publication to mark a special year in the history of travel retail.
“We will trace the landmark, industry-defining moments of the past 70 years since the visionary Brendan O’Regan spotted a business opportunity to serve travellers through Shannon Airport in Ireland. His idea and its execution gave birth to the global industry that we know today.
“But we will do more than publish a history; we want to examine how travel retail will look in the next decade too. With the help of the industry, we will assess how the landscape is changing today and what dynamics will influence its evolution.”
