“An ode to youth” — Puig unveils vegan ‘212 Heroes’ fragrance from Carolina Herrera

Forever young: 212 Heroes offers a youthful fruity twist to the classic masculine fougère scent. It was launched in global travel retail on 1 June.

Puig has unveiled 212 Heroes, the latest masculine fragrance from Carolina Herrera.

The vegan scent was launched in worldwide travel retail on 1 June.

It was developed by perfumers Domitille Michalon-Bertier, Juliette Karagueuzouglou and Carlos Benaim.

The masculine Eau de Toilette opens with fruity top notes of Pear Elixir, ginger and lemon haze cannabis, followed by a heart of Geranium Oil Madagascar and sage. It closes with leather accord and musk base notes.

212 Heroes’ organic and vegan ingredients are certified by third-party transparency organisation Expertise Vegan Europe (EVE).

Pear and Geranium are the two key ingredients of the youthful scent. The Geranium Oil Madagascar has been specially developed in partnership with the Botanical and Research Department of the Antananarivo University in Madagascar to evoke the real flower and not just the synthetic oil.

A symbol of rebellious youth: The fragrance comes in a playful skateboard-shaped flaçon, which was originally revealed in 1996 by Carolina Herrera

Benaim said: “Traditionally, Geranium has a pungent and sharp aspect. The Geranium Oil Madagascar in 212 Heroes conjures the Rose and shows minty and sweet nuances that remind of Bourbon.”

Michalon-Bertier added, “The elegance of the Geranium Oil contrasts with the joyful freshness of the Pear Elixir. The latter adds a colourful touch to the mix.”

The Eau de Toilette comes in a striking skateboard shaped flacon, a long-time symbol of Carolina Herrera’s 212 line. It is available in two sizes 90ml and 50ml and was designed so that customers can take one on-the-go and leave the other at home.

“Skaters transform obstacles into challenges,” says Carolina Herrera as she discusses the inspirations behind the new masculine edt

The skateboard is also a symbol of rebellious youth, which was the inspiration of the new scent. Commenting on the flaçon, Beauty Creative Director Carolina Herrera said: “Manufacturing a skateboard-shaped perfume was a challenge. Integrating the internal pressure system in such a precise silhouette is a delicate manoeuvre. It was also very demanding to achieve stability. We spent three years developing the bottle.”

“Skaters transform obstacles into challenges,” Herrera added. “Their imagination paints a sea on the pavement. They reinvent the city and its surroundings. The new 212 Heroes campaign celebrates that festive spirit and turns New York into a gigantic playground.”

The fragrance has been described as “an ode to youth as a state of mind”, characterised by Carolina Herrera’s 212 gang of ambassadors. In the striking visual campaign, the 212 gang skate around New York City, celebrating the international skateboarding movement which culminates with the sport’s debut at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.
