“A feel-good oasis” – Lagardère Travel Retail opens redesigned Zugvogel restaurant at Vienna Airport

AUSTRIA. Lagardère Travel Retail Austria reopened a key food & beverage venue in Vienna Airport Terminal 2’s shopping plaza yesterday (30 March), as the airside Zugvogel restaurant welcomed its first guests after a redesign.

Offering panoramic views of the  Viennese travel hub’s airfield, the refurbished Zugvogel (meaning: migratory bird) now boasts an open kitchen through which users can view chefs at work.

The interior design features a ceiling construction including 700 plastic birds, many plants and newly-upholstered chairs, benches and tables.

The airport operator said the new-look restaurant has created a “feel-good oasis that enables people to completely forget the typical hustle and bustle at the airport”.

The restaurant’s menu includes traditional Wiener schnitzel, international burger creations and vegan dishes.

By mid-April, Lagardère Travel Retail will also open its second Burger King restaurant at the airport and the first Austrian outlet from international coffee brand Costa Coffee, both in the arrivals hall.

Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger said: “We are continually expanding our food & beverage offering at Vienna Airport in cooperation with our partners.

“Thanks to the modernised panorama restaurant Zugvogel, a new Burger King outlet and Austria’s first Costa Coffee site, we now offer our passengers new culinary offerings in collaboration with Lagardère Travel Retail. We wish all our passengers a relaxed stay and good appetite.”

Lagardère Travel Retail Austria CEO Ursula Fürnhammer commented: “After months of construction and a planning phase lasting close to two years, we are opening the Zugvogel restaurant today, resplendent in its new design, for the benefit of our airport guests.”

She added: “We are very pleased with the new Zugvogel, Austria’s very first Costa Coffee site and an additional Burger King outlet. In this way, we can significantly contribute towards improving the quality of the time people spend at Vienna Airport.” ✈
