3Sixty Duty Free captures ten-year contract at Ontario International Airport

USA. The Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Commissioners has approved a ten-year concession agreement with 3Sixty Duty Free & More to operate a duty free retail store at Ontario International Airport Terminal 2. The new outlet at the Southern Californian airport will open in July.

The T2 space will be 3Sixty’s first retail operation on the US West Coast. It will serve international passengers on flights to Central America, Mexico, Taipei and other destinations.

Ontario International Airport passenger growth has been mainly driven by strong domestic traffic but its international business also represents a big opportunity for business partners, including new duty free partner 3Sixty

The airport has added several new concession partners in the past 12 months, including Dunkin Donuts, Chick-Fil-A and Subway – the last named of which will open in 2022. In a statement the airport company added: “The addition of a core duty free concession further enhances the airport’s position as a major aviation gateway and [Ontario] is now only the second Southern California international airport that will operate a duty free concession.”

Under the terms of the concession agreement, 3Sixty is responsible for all capital investment for its retail space and will pay a concession fee to the OIAA.

With its expanding line-up of flights and destinations and passenger volumes near pre-pandemic levels, Ontario has experienced one of the fastest COVID-19 recovery rates among airports across the US.

“The Board of Commissioners is pleased to award this concession agreement to 3Sixty, with its extensive network of partners and diverse suppliers and the capabilities needed to provide the high-profile brands and customer experiences that Ontario travellers demand,” said Alan D. Wapner, President of the OIAA Board. “This new concession agreement is further recognition of Ontario Airport’s emergence as a global gateway, providing a world-class experience for our loyal customers.”

“This is a major step forward in the expansion of our retail options,” said OIAA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Atif Elkadi. “We are delighted to welcome 3Sixty Duty Free to be part of the Ontario Airport family, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership as we continue to grow and develop our business and passenger numbers. As our international traffic and destinations continues to grow, the addition of a world-class duty-free outlet will enhance the width and breadth of our retail offerings and add significant value to our customer experience.”

3Sixty Chief Operating Officer Alex Anson commented: “3Sixty has over many years developed exceptional partnerships that have enabled our company to interpret traveller needs and align these to our partner brands’ expectations while developing leading retail experiences including omnichannel retail. We are excited to bring all of this to Ontario International Airport and realise the duty free retail opportunity, enhancing the overall passenger experience.”

3Sixty manages a network of duty free & duty paid retail outlets in the US, including at Dallas-Fort Worth, Newark and Orlando airports, among others. It is the world’s largest inflight duty free concessionaire, with partnerships that include carriers such as Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Air Canada. The company, established in 1987, conducts business on five continents through a worldwide network of packing and fulfilment stations and retail stores.
