Six of the best: Vancouver Airport to open new food & beverage outlets

YVR BahnShopCANADA. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is set to unveil six new restaurants as part of a pledge to “start the culinary journey” before departure abroad.

The Bánh Shop (right) will serve traditional Vietnamese bánh mì street sandwiches in the US Departures Terminal post-security. Bánh mì are warm and crispy French baguettes stuffed with chargrilled pork, beef or chicken and combined with the bold flavours of Southeast Asia –Thai basil, cilantro, pickled vegetables and cool crisp cucumber. It will open in Spring 2017.

YVR described Freshii as “a game changer”, designed to provide fresh, healthy foods for passengers wishing to stay energised for travel.

Freshii, due to open in Spring 2019, will offer over 70 fresh, colourful and nutritious ingredients and dressings – “a unique snack option for every flyer that can be customised to suit each and every dietary delight”. Located U.S. post security, Freshii will be a great choice for those looking to fuel up before flying

LIFT (pictured directly below) is a well-known known in downtown Vancouver from its full-service bar and restaurant on Coal Harbour. This winter it will open as   in YVR’s International Departures Terminal post-security, offering “upper crust” food and drink.

YVR LIFTThe Taco Shack has been serving its brand of fresh, California-style Mexican cuisine at popular beachside taco stands in Vancouver over the past seven years.  Its “built-for-speed” setting is perfect for passengers and public who are on the go, YVR said. “The streamlined menu of tacos, burritos and quesadillas, will draw passengers and airport employees alike – bringing a taste of beachside sunshine to the terminal at YVR,” the airport company said. Opening Spring 2017.

Pajo’s: “Succulent seafood on-the-go, down on the docks… a culinary mainstay for decades”

Pajo’s Fish & Chips is another long-established name locally, described as a “culinary mainstay” in nearby Steveston for decades, “dishing up succulent seafood on-the-go, down on the docks”. Pajo’s is committed to sustainability as well as the quality of its food.

YVR commented: “Their progressive approach to green practices, ‘Oceanwise’ seafood, locally sourced plates, and commitment to the wider regional community makes Pajo’s Fish & Chips a great choice.” The outlet will open in the International Food Court in Spring 2017.

Urban Crave, already well-established in the airport world, will offer “fun, contemporary” food and local, craft brews pre-security in a casual atmosphere. This sit-down option will be available for those with more time pre-flight, airport employees and members of the general public. It will open in Spring 2019.

Note: Vancouver Airport Authority Director, Commercial Services Sue Stiene is one of the speakers at this year’s Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Conference & Awards in Geneva (29 June-1 July). She will join Heathrow Director of Food & Beverage Ben Crowley and HMSHost International CEO Walter Seib on a panel assessing the critical question of ‘How do we change the image of airport dining?’
