Passenger traffic up +11.4% in the Middle East and +7.2% in Asia Pacific in May, reports ACI

ASIA PACIFIC/MIDDLE EAST. Passenger traffic grew +11.4% in the Middle East in May, and +7.2% in Asia Pacific, according to ACI Asia-Pacific.

India continued to lead passenger growth in Asia Pacific, supported by sturdy domestic demands. Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi posted +21% growth while Bangalore’s Kempegowda International was up +24.2%.

Guangzhou Baiyun International rebounded from a period of slow growth in 2015 and was the top performer in China with a +10% increase.

Elsewhere in the region, Auckland posted an increase of +11.6% and has been gaining momentum since late 2015, “driven by an increase in seat capacity in both existing and new services”, according to ACI Asia-Pacific.

In the Middle East, Doha’s Hamad International remained in the leading position posting growth at +23.8%, followed by Dubai International at +7.2% and Abu Dhabi International at +5.6%.

ACI Asia-Pacific is one of the five regions of the Airports Council International and is based in Hong Kong. It represents 103 members operating 578 airports in 48 countries in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
