Leon lands in mainland Europe with opening at Amsterdam Schiphol

NETHERLANDS. HMSHost International is to open a second Leon outlet at Amsterdam Schiphol – hot on the heels of the first store opening of the healthy fast food chain at the airport earlier this month.

The first store is located landside at Schiphol’s Plaza and is the first Leon outlet to open in mainland Europe. Leon first opened in London in 2004 and now has 35 additional stores in the UK.

The second store at Schiphol will be located airside and will open early in 2017.

Speaking at a launch event at the airport, Leon co-founder John Vincent said: “Earlier this month HMSHost and Leon won the ‘Oscar’ for fast food at the Airport Food and Beverage (FAB) Awards, which shows that bringing people food which tastes good and does them good is especially welcome for travel weary passengers. This is a magnificent site in Schiphol and we’re thrilled to have landed.”

HMSHost International CEO Walter Seib said: “We’re delighted to bring the successful Leon brand to the Netherlands. We’re confident that the Dutch audience will highly appreciate the fresh and flavourly LEON dishes. It’s a great opportunity to reinforce our cooperation with this great company.”

HMSHost already runs seven franchise sites for Leon in the UK, at Kings Cross, Euston and Eurotunnel train stations and Stansted, Heathrow (T2 and T3) and East Midlands airports.

The Leon menu at Schiphol will feature signature Leon dishes such as the Moroccan meatball hotbox, the fish finger wrap, and the original super food salad. All ingredients (apart from the Spanish chorizo) will be sourced in the Netherlands. As in the UK, Leon said meat would conform to strict welfare standards, all eggs would be free range and local, and the milk would be organic.
