Fragrances to the fore as Shiseido Travel Retail gets set for Cannes

Shiseido Travel Retail is poised to present a number of new fragrances from its portfolio of brands, including Alaïa Paris, Issey Miyake and Zadig & Voltaire, at next month’s TFWA World Exhibition (Riviera Village, RH3).

Dolce & Gabbana, the latest addition to Shiseido’s fragrance portfolio following a worldwide beauty licensing deal which is effective 1 October, will also have significant presence at the Cannes show (Beach Village 2 Beach 08).

“We are very optimistic about our future in fragrances, despite an overall market decline in sales of the category last year,” said Shiseido Travel Retail Vice President Marketing Elisabeth Jouguelet.

“We have just launched the highly anticipated Zadig & Voltaire, a brand that brings new energy and a touch of raw edginess that will appeal to a younger demographic. And with Dolce & Gabbana, we are ushering in an exciting new era of growth and development. Our aim is for fragrances to represent 42% of our total retail sales by 2020.”

A new pillar brand for Shiseido Travel Retail: Zadig & Voltaire’s alter ego scents aim to portray the alchemy of a “forever young” couple

French fashion house Zadig & Voltaire’s new fragrance duo This is Him! And This is Her!, launching this month in travel retail, will be a major focus through 2017 for Shiseido Travel Retail.

This is Her!, created by Sidonie Lancesseur and Michel Almairac, is a woody, floral scent. Notes include silk, cashmere, Arabian jasmine, pink peppercorn, chestnut, vanilla and sandalwood.

This is Him! is a woody oriental fragrance created by Nathalie Lorson and Aurélien Guichard. Top notes comprise grapefruit and black pepper, while vanilla and incense make up the heart. The dry down features sandalwood.

The two alter ego fragrances are presented in monochromatic bottles, said to represent the alchemy of a couple, forever young. Zadig & Voltaire Artistic Director Cecilia Bönström said: “The bottle design is elegant and simple, inspired from contemporary art. We wanted to focus on a minimalist design, black and white, with this symbol of opposition and attraction between men and women.”

For Alaïa, Shiseido Travel Retail will showcase Eau de Parfum Blanche – a follow-up to the brand’s inaugural fragrance Alaïa Paris.

Eau de Parfum Blanche, inspired by Azzedine Alaïa’s visit to The Alhambra of Granada, was created by Carla Sozzani, Marie Salamagne, Martin Szekely and Paolo Roversi. Salamagne explained: “In this new adventure I aimed for a white, milky florality, a bit more solar, adding a powdery element, as well as the wealth of vanilla and a musky addition, in a complex and timeless creation.”

Alaïa Blanche is presented in a transparent rectangular glass flacon topped with a metal cap that looks like a spool of golden thread. The glass is adorned with the Alaïa laser-cut pattern which first appeared on a leather corset in the 1980s, with “Alaïa Paris” in nude wording. The same laser-cut pattern features on the white box packaging.

Alaïa Eau de Parfum Blanche 50ml and 100ml will be pre-launched in 2016 with selected retailers and in early 2017 in travel retail Europe, Middle East & Africa.

Issey Miyake’s L’Eau d’Issey Pure Eau de Toilette for women, which follows the introduction of the Pure Eau de Parfum in July, will launch in 2017.

The new scent, developed by Dominique Ropion, draws inspiration from water. Key ingredient Maritima, an exclusive IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) molecule, combines with Ambergris. The floral heart blends lily of the valley, orange blossom, essence of rose damascena and jasmine while the base features cashmeran, wood and musk.

The L’Eau d’Issey Pure bottle retains the original minimalist iteration of L’Eau d’Issey with one difference: the crystalline ball that adorns the top has moved to the bottom of the L’Eau d’Issey Pure bottle.

L’Eau d’Issey Pure EDP, available in 50ml and 90ml, is on shelf now in travel retail Europe, Middle East & Africa. The EDT (50ml and 90ml) will launch in April 2017.
