Bottega and Santero set for new court hearing over counterfeit dispute

Bottega_Il Vino dell'Amore_PetaloMoscato_LRITALY. Italian wine producers Bottega and Santero will be returning to court on 19 December to resolve the on-going dispute over the counterfeiting of Bottega’s sparkling wine Il Vino dell’Amore Petalo Moscato.

In 2012, the Public Prosecutor’s Office said that Moscato Spumante Dolce Tempo wine, produced by Santero, was a “blatant” copy of Bottega’s Il Vino dell’Amore Petalo Moscato.

All bottles, labels, molds and cardboard boxes related to Santero’s product were seized and held at customs in Italy. Santero subsequently petitioned to revoke the seizure but their request was rejected.

In 2013, the Court of Alba prosecuted Gianfranco Santero for counterfeiting Il Vino dell’Amore Petalo Moscato.

Bottega said the incident reaffirmed the originality and authenticity of its trademarks and products and is a significant development in copyright owners’ ongoing war against infringement of their works.
