SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport and partner Swiss Life are to begin construction of lifestyle and business complex The Circle next month.

As reported, the US$1.1 billion project will cover 180,000sq m split into seven modules: Brands & Dialogue; Hotels & Convention; Headquarters & Offices; Health & Beauty; Education & Knowledge; Counsel & Arts; and Culture & Events.

The companies announced newly agreed brand tenants – with Caviar House & Prunier and fashion label Grieder joining the Swatch Group in the Brands & Dialogue zone – as they made a final agreement to go ahead with the project.

Other confirmed tenants include the Hyatt Group, which will operate Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place hotels as well as the congress centre. Airport authority Flughafen Zürich will take office space at the site, while University Hospital Zürich will operate a health centre.

The project partners said in a statement: “On this basis, Flughafen Zürich and Swiss Life have decided to go ahead definitively with implementing the first stage.”

Initial preparations for demolishing existing buildings and car parks will begin in January 2015. The first phase of The Circle is expected to be completed in 2018.

Flughafen Zürich and Swiss Life will form a joint ownership company once construction begins, with the airport company holding a 51% stake.

The project aims to attract an influx of brands and businesses to the airport
