SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport turnover from retail and dining fell by 2.1% year-on-year in Q1 2019 to reach CHF127.7 million (US$127.4 million). This followed a relatively weak March, partially due to the later timing of Easter (which falls in April this year; the holiday began in late March in 2018), when turnover fell by 5.2%.

Airside sales fell by 1.7% in the quarter and by 5.9% in March, with landside sales slipping by 2.6% in the quarter and 4.3% in March.

The key figure of airside spend per passenger reached CHF22.40 (US$22.36) in Q1 (-4.9%) and CHF22.30 in March (-7%). This compares to CHF22.70 in 2018 as a full year.

In March the airport handled 2.4 million passengers, a rise of 1.2% year-on-year. In Q1, passenger traffic was 6.6 million, an increase of 3.4%.
