SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport retail and dining turnover fell by -67.6% year-on-year in the first three months of 2021, to CHF33.5 million (US$36.3 million). The figures reflect the comparison with a solid Q1 2020 before the full impact of COVID-19 hit the business. They include sales from The Circle lifestyle and business complex, which opened last November.
Commercial turnover fell by -33.1% year-on-year in March, reaching CHF13.7 million (US$14.8 million), with airside sales down by -64.7%.
Airside spend per departing passenger was CHF29.70 (US$32.19) in March, with the rise of +37.8% skewed by limited numbers of passengers. Q1 airside average spend was CHF23.20 (US$25.14), up by +4.4%.
The airport served 228,050 passengers in March, down by -74.4% compared to the previous year. Compared to the same month 2019, passenger numbers are -90.6% lower. Q1 passenger traffic was 708,375, down by -86%.
