Zürich Airport extends management contract at Iquique Airport

CHILE. Zürich Airport has extended its concession to operate and expand Iquique Diego Aracena Airport in northern Chile.

A-Port Chile S.A., a 100% subsidiary of Flughafen Zürich AG, had a contract to March 2018. The new contract runs for an initial 18 years, up to a maximum 25 years (dependent on traffic growth).

Zürich Airport said: “A-port Chile will expand and improve the airport’s infrastructure to achieve its maximum growth potential, with the mission to offer best quality services to passengers, airlines and other stakeholders.”

The airport is located around 40 km south of the harbour city of Iquique and serves as the point of entry to the Atacama Desert. The airport is the fifth busiest in Chile with 1.2 million annual passengers, supported by tourism and the local mining industry.

Also in Chile, Zürich Airport has the concession to run Antofagasta Cerro Moreno Airport, which serves 2 million passengers a year.
