Zürich Airport commercial turnover climbs in November but average spend slips

SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport turnover from retail and food & beverage climbed by +1.3% year-on-year in November to reach CHF42.9 million (US$43.2 million).

Within this, airside sales rose by +2.1% while landside sales increased marginally (+0.2%). The key figure of airside spend per passenger fell by -3.8% to CHF22.40 (US$22.54). Average spend has declined in each of the past three months (see table), a period in which the Euro has fallen in value against the Swiss Franc.

Commercial growth was below the year-on-year rise in passenger traffic of +6%, with total volumes hitting 2.21 million. Within this, intercontinental (long haul) traffic climbed by +10.6% and traffic to and from other European locations by +4.5%.

In the first 11 months of the year, commercial turnover increased by +3.5% to CHF542.7 million (US$546 million). Airside spend per departing passenger was CHF22.60 (US$22.75), a slight increase of +0.3% on the same period last year.
