Zürich Airport commercial sales reach over 90% of 2019 levels in July

SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport retail and dining turnover reached CHF54.1 million (US$57.47 million) in July, a leap of +56.3% compared to July 2021. Encouragingly, the figure was around 92% of pre-pandemic July 2019 performance.

Sales were buoyed by an +85% rise in passenger traffic to over 2.5 million in the month. Airside spend per passenger slipped by -4.8% year-on-year to CHF24.70 (US$26.25).

For the first seven months of 2022, commercial turnover reached CHF272.3 million (US$289.35 million), more than double last year’s number for the same period, with traffic also more than doubling to 11.6 million. Average spend was CHF24.30, down by -6.6% year-on-year.

Zürich Airport passenger numbers are forecast rise to around 20 million in 2022, or two-thirds of pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, passenger traffic reached 10.2 million. The airport company also predicts a return to profit this year.
