Zürich Airport commercial sales buoyed by traffic growth but average spend slips

SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport turnover from retail and food & beverage climbed by 6.3% year-on-year in May, hitting CHF52.5 million (US$53.1 million). Within this, airside sales surged by +8.2%, with landside sales up by +3.6%. The figures were aided by a +8.4% leap in passenger traffic to 2.7 million. Within this, intercontinental (long haul) traffic climbed by +9.9%.

Turnover per departing passenger in the month slipped by -1.9% to CHF38.70 (US$39.18), and in airside areas the figure was down by a marginal -0.1% (-4.4% landside).

In the first five months of the year, commercial turnover increased by +5.1% to CHF232.5 million (US$235.4 million). Turnover per departing passenger was CHF39.40 (US$39.90), down by -1.2% on the same period last year.
