Win a Nestlé hamper contest Day 4 + Day 3 result

My lord of Ely, when I was last in Holborn I saw good strawberries in your garden there; I do beseech you send for some of them.
– From Richard III, William Shakespeare

To celebrate its ambitious plan to build food into the number one most-purchased food category in travel retail, Nestlé is offering a fabulous food hamper in a daily competition open to all travel retailers and landlords throughout December.

The competition coincides with a compelling visual makeover of The Moodie Davitt Report.com home page this month. In support of the Nestlé ambition, The Moodie Davitt Report has renamed our category page Food & Confectionery (as opposed to Confectionery & Fine Foods).

To enter our Day 4 competition, please email Martin Moodie at Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘Nestlé Food Category – VERSE Competition Day 4’, simply naming a food or foods starting with S in the body of your e-mail. A prize draw will be held each working day until 24 December.

Entries for Day 4 close 2pm Hong Kong time Tuesday 7 December.

Why the S? Simple. At the Virtual Travel Retail Expo in October, Nestlé International Travel Retail (NITR) General Manager Stewart Dryburgh outlined Nestlé’s VERSE growth model, an acronym representing five pillars: Value, Engagement, Regeneration, Sense of Place and Execution. Each one has a vital role to play in ensuring that Nestlé’s ‘food in 50% of baskets’ target in travel retail is met by 2030, if not before.

Day 3 Winner

We received lots of creative submissions for our Day 3 competition, in which entrants simply had to name a food starting with R to enter the prize draw for a bumper Nestlé hamper.

This time around we received a baRRage of entries from from Dubai Duty Free, whose multi-national, multi-talented team showed that they are as well-versed in culinary matters as they are in retail disciplines.

Mohamed Sajib of Dubai Duty Free wowed us with this literary gem. Tasty-sounding too.

Raise a glass – Rum, Rosé, or Royal Salute is the Aperitif
Roasted nuts, Roti, Risotto, Ravioli then crave to eat
Ramen noodles, Rice, Ratatoille, ’n roasted Red meat
Rasgolla, or Raspberry ice cream to a jolly scream!

Ramen with Ratatouille and Red Cabbage followed by Rhubarb Crumble, was the double-helping culinary offering of Michael Norfolk (ex-Humberside Airport Duty Free – keep trying Michael, you will surely be first out of the hat one day).

Dubai Duty Free Buyer Ymhenia Carpio also impressed with:

I want to make the people know
What makes me go and glow
A fitness breakfast cereals on a bowl
Topped with raisin and raspberries too.
Don’t forget a cup espresso roast
To fill your heart with joy

Aparna Vinod of the E-commerce & Social Media Department at Dubai Duty Free tempted us mightily with Roasted chicken roulade stuffed with red pepper served on a bed of crisp Romaine lettuce with a rosemary ricotta dip and a refreshing glass of red wine.

And Erly Robit, also a Buyer at Dubai Duty Free, came up with this perfect winter concoction: Warm yourself with a peeping hot Rameen in a delicious boiled down soup with Roasted chicken breast, garnished in Red scallions and Raw bean sprout.

And there was more, much more, to come from the Dubai Duty Free team. Ardhee Rose Adato-Draaijer, Assistant Manager – Customer Service, noted, Rooted from my Asian background, Rice is everything! Rice noodles as main, top it with Rice pudding for dessert and Rice crackers for snack.

Arjun Vellangat, Assistant Buyer in the Purchasing and Research Department suggested a sensationally sumptous meal of Ribeye steak cooked in red wine sauce served with rosemary roasted potatoes finished off with a rich rhubarb tart.

Baiju Majeed, Supervisor, Stock control – Finance recommended Radish & Romaine lettuce salad, continuing on a  grilled lamb Ribs & Rice, ending in Raspberry tart.

First name out of the hat though was Bernard Aquino, Supervisor – PR and Media, Marketing Department at Dubai Duty Free. “Dreaming of being swept away to the French Riviera whilst enjoying a Red wine Ratatouille Risotto with Rocket and slow-Roasted tomato salad and a glass of Kir Royale. Can we put an end to this pandemic so I can make this dream a reality?”, wrote Bernard.

We’re not sure even the website that never sleeps can do that Bernard, but we can at least cheer you up with a fabulous food hamper courtesy of Nestlé, heading your way soon.

Chapter and VERSE

‘Building food into the #1 most purchased category in travel retail’ – a simple expression of a bold ambition that Nestlé is bringing to the industry – was the subject of a recent Moodie Davitt Spotlight Series eZine edition.

Food & confectionery is already the number-one driver of cross-category purchase and the second-most purchased category, research says. Nestlé’s goal is to leverage the currently untapped potential of food, ensuring it is in 50% of baskets by the end of the decade. Crucially, that means not just focusing on the traditional and highly attractive confectionery category, but also exploiting the opportunities across the food category, encompassing local foods alongside global food brands not yet widely present in travel retail.
