WHSmith pledges ‘truly local experience’ in new stores at Adelaide Airport

AUSTRALIA. WHSmith this month opens two new stores at Adelaide Airport’s main terminal, with the retailer pledging to “offer a truly local experience to arriving and departing passengers”.

To capture Sense of Place WHSmith has worked with local suppliers to create its mix of products, from healthy snacks and drinks to confectionery and gifting.

The company said the range will be refreshed regularly to add newness. Its ‘Celebrating Local’ programme will be a feature of both stores, with large digital screens dedicated to telling the story about local suppliers, authors, events, organisations, and notable South Australian people.

The WHSmith store branding in Adelaide cleverly reflects its South Australia location, one of many elements that offer local flavour

The design of the stores reflects “the urban chic, style and uniqueness of the city and state, offering a local experience even down to the name of the store and the fascia,” said WHSmith. It added that the mixture of colours, materials and textures “embrace the life and soul of South Australia”.

WHSmith Australia Managing Director Carl Hargrave said: “I’m absolutely delighted WHSmith has been given the opportunity to open two new stores in Adelaide Airport; it is indicative of our strong partnership with the Adelaide Airport team. While we pride ourselves on being one of the leading news, books and convenience retailers in Australia, we constantly look to offer a localised experience in our stores.

“Our new WHSmith Adelaide locations are flagship stores in every respect, from unique concepts, a beautiful store environment and a genuine Sense of Place. We are looking forward to welcoming Adelaide Airport’s passengers to our latest best in class experience in Australian airports.”

Adelaide Airport Managing Director Mark Young said: “We’re excited to see WHSmith’s two new stores opening in Adelaide Airport’s main terminal, signifying another big step forward for our current terminal expansion project due for completion at the end of 2021. We’re also delighted to see WHSmith promoting local suppliers, in keeping with our overall theme in the terminal to showcase the best products South Australia has to offer.”
