WHSmith builds Perth Airport presence after tender gains

AUSTRALIA. WHSmith has been awarded the concession for four stores at Perth Airport International Terminal 1 following a tender. The first is due to open in May, with others to follow during the rest of 2020.

Over the past year in Australia, WHSmith has opened three stores at Perth Airport Domestic Terminal 4 and two at Melbourne Airport Domestic Terminal 3.

The new Perth Airport stores will feature “the latest format developments in store design and layout, showcasing best-in-class retail initiatives with feature spaces for key ranges and digital screens,” said the retailer.

Its ‘Celebrating Local’ programme, which launched in Perth, will be expanded with activations dedicated to highlighting local products, book titles, events, organisations and Western Australian people.

Digital accessories travel retail brand InMotion, acquired in 2018 by WHSmith, will have prominent space in several stores. This follows the opening of the first Australian InMotion store in Perth Airport T4 last June.

WHSmith Australia Managing Director Carl Hargrave commented: “I’m delighted WHSmith has been awarded these four new stores in Perth airport; it is indicative of our strong partnership with the Perth Airport team.

“While we pride ourselves on being one of the biggest news, books and convenience operators in Australia, we constantly look to evolve our stores and our offer for the ever-changing domestic and international passenger demographic. Our new store in store InMotion is a great example of this, offering the latest ranges of tech products coupled with fantastic knowledge and service from within our WHSmith formats.”

Perth Airport Chief Commercial Officer Kate Holsgrove said: “WHSmith is a leading retailer for travelling customers, so we are very pleased to have them operating on more sites at Perth Airport.

“We look forward to growing our partnership with the great team at WHSmith by offering our passengers a world class retail offering at our terminals.”
