What’s private versus what’s public – Diesel and Samsonite launch joint capsule collection

Global lifestyle brand Diesel and leading travel house Samsonite have joined forces to launch a special edition luggage collection.

According to both brands, the collection was designed for a ‘new generation of modern travellers’ and features striking visuals juxtaposing the design codes of both brands. The Diesel x Samsonite collection was launched in local markets on 21 October.

“The design of these bags reflects the balance we all must calibrate; it allows for the world to see some of what we are, but not all of who we are”

The collaboration reinterprets three of Samsonite’s most popular travel ranges: the Neopulse range, the Paravider Light Range, and the Openroad business collection.

The Diesel x Samsonite collection offers several practical travel features. These include an integrated drawstring backpack, an external USB port on the cabin sized luggage, and a dedicated sleeve pocket for power banks. The pieces come in a gradient colourway, beginning with classic black at the bottom to a transparent neon yellow mesh shade at the top.

The collaboration reinterprets three of Samsonite’s most popular ranges, and imbues them with Diesel’s unmistakable attitude. These are the Neopulse range, the Paravider Light Range, and the Openroad business collection.

Samsonite’s hardside Neopulse suitcase – which features an integrated TSA lock and double tube pull handle – is boosted with Diesel’s Mohican head logo in its wheels. It is available in four sizes from a cabin-sized spinner 55 to an extra-large spinner 81.

The Neopulse range is adapted to include Diesel’s Mohican head logo on the wheels.

Samsonite’s softside Paravider Light range – which is made up of a laptop backpack, a cabin-sized duffle on wheels backpack, and two different check-in duffle on wheels bags – is also enhanced with Diesel’s bold design details. The Paravider Light range features water and dirt repellent fabric, and plenty of organisational compartments.

Finally, the Openroad business collection features a 15.6” laptop backpack and a 17.3” weekender backpack, with plenty of clever technical twists. These include spacious compartments, a dedicated laptop sleeve, and a water bottle pocket.

Diesel Licenses Creative Director Andrea Rosso said that the collection was inspired by modern notions of privacy in today’s social media age. Rosso said: “The idea behind this collaboration and its campaign is fueled by our current era: we live in a time where the balance of what we share vs. what we keep private is constantly in flux. Inevitably, all of us live part of our lives in public — be that through social media, our work, our social groups.

“Yet with the rise of the digital age, awareness of privacy – data, photos, material possessions and so much more–has also increased. The design of these bags reflects the balance we all must calibrate; it allows for the world to see some of what we are, but not all of who we are.”

Samsonite Travel Europe Product Marketing Director Sofie Deboes said, “From the very first meeting, one could almost feel the eagerness from both parties to reset the bar on luggage for the Samsonite x Diesel project. From a Samsonite point of view, it was truly exciting to get challenged on what we consider our everyday business.”

The dynamic campaign video was shot in São Paolo and features different people expressing contrasting sides of their personalities within public and private spaces.
