WH Smith makes Schiphol debut after contract win

NETHERLANDS. News, books and travel essentials specialist WH Smith has opened its first store at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, marking its debut in the Netherlands. It is the first of three stores for the retailer: two more will open in 2020 and 2021.

The store, located in Pier F, opened on 18 February. It offers newspapers, magazines and books, as well as confectionery, drinks, coffee, sandwiches, digital accessories and other travel essentials.

A new territory: WH Smith makes its debut at Europe’s third busiest airport; two more stores will follow.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Director of Consumer Products & Services Tanja Dik said: “We are delighted to welcome WH Smith as a new retail operator. WH Smith’s expertise in the categories of books, magazines and convenience and as a well-known brand in travel retail will help Amsterdam Airport Schiphol improve the customer experience at our non-Schengen concourse.

“We are looking forward to working towards the opening of WH Smith’s second and third stores in 2020 and 2021.”

WH Smith Managing Director, International Phil McNally commented: “We’re very pleased to have opened our first store at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
