WanderSafe secures first inflight listing with Etihad Airways

WanderSafe’s Beacon personal safety device has gained its first inflight retail listing with Etihad Airways.

As reported, WanderSafe launched its non-violent safety concept for travellers at last year’s TFWA World Exhibition. The electronic device and app was created by JOZU for Women, a travel platform designed to help women travel better and safer.

WanderSafe has since rebranded to present Beacon in new packaging.

Beacon, WanderSafe’s compact personal safety device, takes to the skies with Etihad Airways.

The hand-held Beacon’s features include a high-lumen flashlight, a strobe designed to disorient in a confrontation, and a twist-to-signal 140 decibel alarm. The device pairs with a free WanderSafe app to provide travellers with location safety information and the ability to notify trusted contacts in the event of an unsafe situation.

WanderSafe Founder and Beacon Creator Stephenie Rodriguez said: “The rebrand is exciting and the packaging makes it simple for the travel retail shopper and retail sales teams to understand our value proposition.

“As a frequent flyer on Etihad Airways, and a traveller to more than 55 countries, I’m delighted to see the Beacon take flight on one of the world’s finest airlines.”

Rodriguez said WanderSafe has collaborated with onboard retail business specialist Retail inMotion to bring the Beacon to market.

WanderSafe’s mission, she said, is to positively impact 1 billion lives by 2025 through safer and more informed travel on the ground.

“Being included as part of the inflight retail offering on Etihad Airways helps us further the mission of ‘safer together’ to reduce human trafficking and illicit crime,” Rodriguez added. Through a ‘buy-one-give-one-back’ offer, a Beacon is donated to communities in need through partnerships with CrimeStoppers International and Airline Ambassadors.

“Beacon was designed with the solo traveller in mind, but as it has been showcased, the need and popularity of it for everyone who is vulnerable has become clear,” Rodriguez concluded.

Rodriguez featured in The Moodie Davitt Report interview on the personal safety of female travellers.
