Leading spirits company, Whyte & Mackay* is on target to completing an eight-week, 46,625.7 km virtual journey around the world.
As reported, its employees are walking/running/cycling to raise awareness and funds for mental health charities around the world. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ‘Whyte & Mackay Cares’ Round The World Challenge, which started on 1 July, has a £50,000 (US$62,800) target.
The fundraising effort was inspired by the company’s awareness of the “extraordinary challenges” facing people during the COVID-19 pandemic. And it has resulted in some extraordinary results, with Whyte & Mackay team members, and individuals, smashing their targeted amounts.
Employees based in Canada, USA, Mexico, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UAE, South Africa, Germany, France, Spain and Russia are taking part alongside their UK-based colleagues. In the UK, Whyte & Mackay is supporting the Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH) via a direct fundraising page on JustGiving.com where donations can be made.
Whyte & Mackay Chief Commercial Officer Nick Garland committed to run at least a half a marathon every week for eight weeks. He aimed to raise £2,500 in support of SAMH but upped his target and his fundraising page is showing a total of £5,905.
The company’s Travel Retail Director Richard Trimby, who opted to run the distance of one marathon each week for eight weeks – a total of 338km – has also shattered his targeted amount by 205%. His donation stands at £1,026.
Garland and Trimby are just two of many Whyte & Mackay employees who have already met or surpassed their targets. Janice McIntosh aimed to raise £250; her total stands now at £714.
Graham Rushworth opted to cycle/walk 1400km in the eight weeks and has raised £550 while Innes Gibb is close to her targeted £300.
As reported, members of the Whyte & Mackay Middle East India Team decided to support the Al Jalila Foundation which is regarded as a pioneer in mental health in the region.
Whyte & Mackay Area Director Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Ashish Monga committed to run the distance equal to ten full marathons. He has already completed his mission and contributed to the £2,000 targeted by the team.
Whyte & Mackay has also set up a separate fundraising page to collect donations and share across charities in other countries where they are not affiliated to JustGiving including: Canadian Mental Health Association, Mental Health America, the Taipei-based Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation, the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong, Al Jalila Foundation (UAE), and the South African Federation of Mental Health.
