Video of the Day: A Lotus flower blooms at Navi Mumbai

Our regular feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Courtesy of GVK Group Head & VP Corporate Communications Ram Mankekar comes this wonderful videographic glimpse of the design of the new Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is expected to be fully operational in 2023.

This year GVK was due to celebrate 15 years in the Indian airports business. However, it is now exiting the sector with Adani Airport Holdings Limited having last year entered into an agreement with GVK to acquire majority control of both Navi Mumbai and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport operator Mumbai International Airport Limited.

The new airport’s design is inspired by the Lotus flower, and is intended to reflect the technological revolution and the future  of India. “When completed, it will become the second landmark airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and will help Navi Mumbai achieve its true glory as a major city in India,” said Ram Mankekar in a post on LinkedIn.
