Varna and Burgas airports launch tender for entire airside commercial areas

BULGARIA. Varna and Burgas airports, Bulgaria’s gateways to the Black Sea, are seeking a partner or partners to manage 28 commercial sites across more than 2,000sq m  of space under seven-year contracts starting January 2023.

The airports are operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management (FTSAM).

Categories include duty free and duty paid retail, other retail, and food & beverage with 14 sites on offer for each airport.

The stores, bars and restaurants with open air terraces are situated airside and cover the whole commercial area (embracing Arrivals and Departures).

The airports are seeking operators with significant industry know-how for long-term cooperation. They expect not only delivery of a high-quality and appealing product range and an ability to meet advanced customer expectations but also a partner or partners that are open-minded to innovation and willing to jointly develop new concepts to improve the overall commercial area layout.

Burgas Airport is the gateway to Bulgaria’s Black Sea southern coast

The tender offers diversified packages with options for a wide range of companies:

∙             Master concession (package for operators, having in their portfolio wide range of activities – F&B, duty free and other retail)

∙             Master retail concession (packages for the experienced in retail only)

∙             Master F&B concession (packages for the experienced in F&B only)

∙             Concession of a specific site or commercial activity (best offers for specific commercial sites)

Varna Airport to the north serves the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast

The tender is being organised in three phases:

1. First phase (eligibility assessment)

Each candidate is invited to state its willingness and eligibility to participate in the tender by submitting the required documents by 15 November 2021.

After undergoing eligibility assessment and within five working days from the submission of a candidate’s request, FTSAM will send to the candidate by email the Special Terms and Conditions for the respective site/s.

2. Second phase (financial offer, conceptual design and operational concept submission)

Each candidate will submit their proposals including the financial offer, conceptual design and operational concept – until 16:00 hours (Bulgaria time) on 31 January, 2022.

The submitted proposals will be considered as a non-binding offer and accepted as a commitment from the candidate  for further negotiations.

3. Third phase (negotiations)

After the proposals’ assessment FTSAM will hold negotiations with selected candidates in order to finalise the negotiation process and conclude contract/s until end of April 2022.
