“Uniquely Brisbane”: AWPL to launch bespoke retail concepts at Domestic Terminal

AUSTRALIA. Specialist travel retailer AWPL is to open News@BNE, a news and travel essentials concept exclusive to Brisbane Airport, in the Domestic Terminal from late 2018.

In addition to the launch of News@BNE, a new first-to-market bookstore/café and local produce concept called Bound will open by early 2020.

Costa Kouros: “Each store designed to represent the uniqueness of Brisbane in a world class environment”

Australian-owned and managed travel retailer AWPL will offer news, books, magazines, stationery, beverages, technology and travel essentials at News@BNE. It said the environment would be “unique to Brisbane Airport”.

Bound will offer a strong book offering, supported by an in-store espresso café and wine bar serving wine and produce from Brisbane and its surrounds.

Australian-owned and managed travel retailer AWPL – well established as a destination merchandise retailer at many airports – has a contract for ten stores as part of Brisbane Airport’s A$40 million northern Domestic Terminal redevelopment. This will deliver more than 50 new tenancies, new retail and food offerings and upgraded passenger facilities.

Brisbane Airport Corporation General Manager Airline and Retail Management Andrew Brodie said: “We are delighted to continue our successful retail partnership with AWPL which began when AWPL opened its first store at Brisbane Airport in 1995.

“AWPL has consistently demonstrated a willingness to align with our vision to deliver a liveable airport, with retail recreational and commercial experiences that are uniquely Brisbane and we are looking forward to building on this platform with the new concepts to be delivered at the Domestic Terminal.”

AWPL Managing Director Costa Kouros said: “The team here at AWPL is proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Brisbane Airport.

“We are excited by the opportunity and will now begin our work to deliver on what we promised – a positive and memorable customer experience that will delight our customers and enhance the reputation of Brisbane Airport. Our stores will be dedicated to Brisbane, brands will be specifically created for Brisbane Airport, and each store designed to represent the uniqueness of Brisbane in a world class environment.”

A long-time tenant of Brisbane Airport, AWPL runs News Travels, Australian Way, Carry On, Merino Collection and Dreamtime Journey at the International Terminal and has a 22-year presence at the Domestic Terminal with News Travels, Aero, Australian Way and Around Australia.

The Domestic Terminal is undergoing a major redevelopment, with leasing under way for its new retail and dining programme
