UK aviation industry reiterates ‘One Too Many’ message ahead of festive travel season

UK. The UK Travel Retail Forum (UKTRF) and other stakeholders in the country’s aviation industry today (20 December) announced the return of the ‘One Too Many’ campaign for the festive season.

After a successful campaign in 2018 reminding passengers of the consequences of disruptive behaviour and irresponsible drinking, this year’s campaign will operate across 20 of the UK’s busiest airports.

The campaign is taking place at 20 of the UK’s busiest airports

The campaign has been launched ahead of what is expected to be the UK’s busiest flying day over the festive season tomorrow (21 December).

UKTRF Chair Francois Bourienne: “We are heading in the right direction.”

The sector has said over 40 million passengers will fly from the participating airports over the full winter period. Over the coming months, digital display screens in retail and F&B outlets will warn that penalties for disruptive behaviour range from denied boarding to an £80,000 fine to a criminal conviction.

UKTRF Chair Francois Bourienne said: “This campaign unites the biggest players in the UK aviation industry to inspire change in passenger behaviour through increasing awareness and education on the consequences of irresponsible drinking.

“The campaign support base is now double in size compared with two years ago and, having been commended by Government as an example of industry best practice in its Aviation 2050 Green Paper, we are heading in the right direction. Disruptive passenger incidents at many airports continue to fall even as passenger numbers rise, evidence that initiatives, such as ‘One Too Many’, are making a positive contribution to this important issue.”

The campaign will be extended to social media this winter

This winter will also see the launch of a ten-week social media campaign across Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram in line with the ‘One Too Many’ message.

The Airport Operators Association (AOA) CEO Karen Dee commented: “Thousands of passengers will be setting off home for Christmas or in pursuit of a festive getaway this week, all looking to make the most of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. This exceptionally busy time of year for UK airports means it’s more important than ever that airports and airline staff are prepared to deal with any troublesome behaviour.

“The ‘One Too Many’ campaign continues to mitigate the number of disruptive passenger incidents through social media and in-airport messaging, to raise further public awareness of the high stakes of irresponsible behaviour before, during and after a flight.”

Praising the initiative, UK Aviation Minister Paul Maynard added: “Airports and airlines are making fantastic progress in ensuring flying is safe and enjoyable for everyone, and through the ‘One Too Many’ campaign, we can encourage passengers to travel responsibly. We want all passengers to enjoy the festive season and complete their journeys with ease, whilst respecting staff and making the most of the holiday period.”
