Turkish raki specialist Efe sets its sights on expansion in travel retail

Turkish raki specialist Efe plans to extend its footprint in travel retail and is seeking duty free agents and/or distributors in key markets.

The unsweetened, occasionally anise-flavoured spirit is popular in the Balkan states, Turkey, Greece and the Middle East. The apéritif is often served with seafood or meze.

Efe established itself as the first private sector raki distiller following the abolition of a state monopoly in Turkey in 2004. It was available on the German domestic market the same year.

Efe seeks to extend its footprint in travel retail.

A year later production was increased to five million litres. That figure has now trebled, with annual sales exceeding 15 million litres, with distribution in over 30 international markets. The brand has collaborated with Bacardi and Beam Suntory since 2012.

Efe is regarded as a leader in innovative brand extensions.

Brand variations include Efe Gold, Bogazici, Bogazici Fresh Grape, Efe Classic and Cilingir Xtra.
