Travel retail platform SkyBuys wins key category in Skift IDEA Awards 2022

AUSTRALIA. Sydney-based duty free and travel retail platform SkyBuys has been recognised at the prestigious Skift IDEA Awards 2022 in New York, winning the Industry Innovators for Airports & Airlines category.

First covered by The Moodie Davitt Report when its CEO and Founder Alec Kemmery was being sponsored by Airbus in the airline manufacturer’s Hamburg accelerator, SkyBuys offers concessionaires, airlines and other channel partners a simple integration to its platform and a new ancillary revenue stream.

Kemmery said the Skift award is a validation of the technology and the new opportunity mobile and ecommerce represent for the wider travel industry.

He told The Moodie Davitt Report: “It’s very exciting for SkyBuys to have its technology recognised by the sector. As international travel ramps up, we look forward to expanding our reach, and to working with our current and future partners, and as new opportunities present themselves.”

Alex Kemmery has recently been buoyed by SkyBuys receiving an Australian Innovation Patent

SkyBuys’ technology has recently been granted an Australian Innovation Patent, and the IP is also in the final stages of registration in the US.

Kemmery said: “By having innovative technology underpinning the SkyBuys platform and app, it has opened up doors for the business, and introduced new channel partners keen to exploit the full potential of digital transactions in duty free and travel retail.””

Kemmery  said he expects the company to make announcements on new concessionaire partners during this quarter. Skybuys will also provide updates on the roll-out of new product applications with key travel, airline and technology partners.

He concluded: “Despite recent challenges, in fact as a result of these challenges, it’s a great time to be bringing new ideas to the sector.”
