Transformation complete: AWPL opens ninth News & Travel Essentials store at Brisbane’s domestic terminal

Martin Ryan: The stores align with Brisbane Airport Corporation’s vision to provide “uniquely Brisbane and memorable” services

AUSTRALIA. AWPL has opened its ninth and final News@BNE store in Brisbane Airport’s Domestic Terminal. Another specialist offer, Bound (a first-to-market bookstore/café concept), will follow in mid-2020.

The latest opening completes the roll-out of News@BNE and its sibling brand Xpress@BNE as part of Brisbane Airport’s A$40 million (US$27.5 million) Domestic Terminal redevelopment. AWPL said that the store programme has set a new benchmark in Australia’s airport news and travel essentials category.

The stores offer a diverse selection, including news, books, magazines, stationery, beverages, snacking, confectionery, gifts, technology and travel essentials.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) Executive General Manager Consumers Martin Ryan said, “AWPL has been a part of the Brisbane Airport family for nearly 30 years.

“During that time, the AWPL team has continued to evolve its stores and product offerings, setting a high standard in the airport retail space that not only delivers what passengers are looking for, but aligns with BAC’s vision to provide across our terminals products, services and experiences that are uniquely Brisbane and memorable for all the right reasons.

Costa Kouros: “A transformed experience”

AWPL Managing Director Costa Kouros said: “News@BNE and Xpress@BNE were designed to deliver a transformed experience for our customers. Customer reaction during the first 12 months indicates that the stores are doing just that.

“We are pleased with what we have delivered so far and remain steadfastly focused on constant improvement over the term of our contract.”

Ryan added: “I’d like to congratulate Costa and the broader team on the launch of their newest stores at Brisbane Airport and look forward to continuing our successful partnership with AWPL.”

AWPL describes itself as Australasia’s leading travel retailer, operating over 60 stores in airports across Australia and New Zealand.
