Traditional US diner inspires new Areas restaurant at Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport

US. Travel industry food & beverage and retail services provider Areas has opened a new diner in Terminal 1 Concourse F at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.

The 2,500sq ft 1950s-style Hi-Lo Diner offers food which aims to be representative of Minnesota culinary traditions and traditional US diner cuisine.

Nod to the 50s: The main Hi-Lo signage that faces a corridor in Terminal 1 is eye-catching, with its shiny retro appeal.

The menu includes Hi-Top, which is hot, fresh, made-to-order dough featuring sweet and savoury toppings.

Pancakes, cheese curds and meatloaf are also featured, complemented by couscous salad or the Fodero breakfast, in reference to the street side location which was built in the 1950s by the Fodero Dining Car Co.

Its beverage menu includes classic cocktails, a wine list, and bottled and draft beers, as well as malts and shakes to which cold press coffee can be added. Ice cream cocktails are also on offer.

Prominent on the menu is a variety of Hi-Tops, which is fresh, made-to-order dough with sweet and savoury toppings. Two examples are pictured here: the Notorious P.I.G (above) and the Gary Cooper (below).

The retro diner theme includes a neon-style sign and the furnishings and fixtures are designed to be reminiscent of the original US diner.

Areas United States CEO Sergio Rodriguez said: “Travellers love to taste a little bit of local flavour. Hi-Lo Diner is a fun and unique perspective of the Minnesota culinary scene.”

Open from 6am to 9pm, the Hi-Lo Diner is the seventh concept Areas now operates at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International.

A global brand of Elior Group, Areas welcomes 330 million customers each year in 2,000 restaurants and points of sale in 14 countries in Europe, the US, Mexico and Chile.
