Spanish jewellery company Tous has become a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). The RJC is the world’s leading organisation setting standards on business ethics and responsible supply chains for the jewellery and watch industry.
The family-owned jewellery company — which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year — was recognised for its commitment to sustainability, environmental preservation, human rights and operational transparency, passing the RJC’s audit.
“The commitment to sustainable development has guided our steps from the outset,” said Tous Corporate Vice Chairwoman Rosa Tous. “Receiving this certification from the RJC, one of the industry’s most reputable organisations, encourages us to continue in our daily efforts to serve as an example of a company that follows responsible business practices. We are particularly excited to earn it in 2020, the year we celebrate 100 years of history.”
The audit analysed the company’s supply chains, production, human rights, labour rights, health and safety measures, environmental impact, precious metal management and responsible raw material sourcing.
The Responsible Jewellery Council — a member of the ISEAL Alliance — codifies best practices for the design and implementation of social and environmentally-sustainable systems in the jewellery industry.
“I would like to congratulate Tous on their certification and for marking 100-years in the industry,” added Responsible Jewellery Council Executive Director Iris Van der Veken. “We work in an industry of beauty and emotions, connecting hearts and minds. Consumers always expect trust when they buy a piece of jewellery to celebrate a significant moment in their lives.
“In this era of trust and resilience, now more than ever there is a need for more companies like Tous to inspire, take action and commit towards a journey of purpose and continuous improvement. RJC supports its members in an integrated approach of best management practices to sustainability. We welcome their leadership and commitment towards responsible business practices.”
