Tomatin enters travel retail with range “for all tastes and budgets”

Highland distillery Tomatin has entered the duty free market with the launch of a range of Scotch whiskies.

The age statement collection includes three travel retail exclusive editions – an 8yo, 15yo and vintage 40yo – which join the brand’s flagship 12yo single malt expression.

The whiskies are being made available now to airports across Europe, to be followed by those in the USA and Asia over the next few years.

In addition to the Tomatin malts, the new range includes a one litre bottle of Standard Edition Cù Bòcan, the distillery’s only peated whisky.

Tomatin is owned by Japanese consortium Takara Shuzo Company.

“We have been working on a strategy to establish our presence in the travel retail market for some time now in response to growing demand for Tomatin single malt on a global level,” said Tomatin Sales Director Stephen Bremner.

“While the majority of Scotch brands have elected to present no-age statement duty free ranges, our collection of age statement whiskies provides a point of difference.

“This is a priority market for us as it provides an introduction to Tomatin for thousands of globe-trotters so we wanted to create a range that caters for all tastes and budgets, whether you’re a whisky novice or a high-end collector.”

Light and fresh: The 15yo variant is one of three travel retail exclusive expressions

The 8yo expression has been matured in Bourbon and Sherry casks. According to Tomatin, the nose has aromas of vanilla-sweetened baked apples and pears “developing into deeper dark fruit flavours, balanced with ginger and cinnamon”. It is priced at €35 for a one litre bottle.

The 15yo has been matured in North American oak casks and is claimed to be light and fresh on the nose, with flavours including citrus fruits, honey and toffee. It is priced at €55 for a 700ml bottle.

Finally, Tomatin 40yo has been aged in oloroso Sherry casks and comes in a 700ml bottle costing €1,250.
