Following the sudden, tragic passing last week of Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) Managing Director Europe Dan Townsend, Tom King, previously General Manager Global Travel Retail, has assumed the role.
Barry Galloway, currently Director Global Customers – On Premise, will take over leadership of the Global Travel Retail Business effective immediately. He will be based in Hong Kong to drive stronger customer partnerships in the growing Asia Pacific region for TWE.
Townsend, 53, was a deeply respected industry figure. Treasury Wine Estates Chief Executive Michael Clarke said: “Our deepest condolences go out to Dan’s family and loved ones. Dan is a big part of our business and he has been a role model for many. This is an incredibly sad time for our entire business, in particular for our UK and European teams.”
King has held several senior leadership positions at TWE since joining the business in 2013 as Commercial Director for Global Travel Retail. In 2015 he assumed responsibility for the company’s Central & Eastern Europe business, and most recently has led both the Global Travel Retail and On Premise channels.
Clarke said: “Tom is an experienced senior sales executive and over the last four years has positioned TWE as a category leader in the Global Travel Retail channel. Tom’s strength is building strong relationships across a wide spectrum of customers as well as developing high-performing teams. This appointment will ensure that our team in Europe will have continued stability and strong senior leadership.”
Galloway has over 15 years’ experience in the drinks industry and in sales management globally, including seven years with TWE in Australia, China and Hong Kong. Clarke said: “I am pleased someone with Barry’s experience and track record of driving customer management has been appointed internally to drive this strategic channel for TWE as we continue to build truly global brands in the growing wine category in Global Travel Retail.”
