Timex introduces Intelligent Quartz innovation at Basel fair

US. Timex launched its Intelligent Quartz technology, a revolutionary new proprietary movement, at the BaselWorld watch fair last month.

Intelligent Quartz was developed in Timex’s state-of-the-art engineering facility in Pforzheim, Germany, and is the result of a 156-year history of timekeeping technology innovation.

Intelligent Quartz encompasses independent motors, digital sensors and microprocessor technology making it flexible and capable of displaying an array of information. This flexibility allows Timex to quickly incorporate new technologies, functions and microprocessors into the Intelligent Quartz platform to deliver new quartz analogue applications.

Timex enhances Intelligent Quartz technology platform for Fall 2011

Timex has built on its new Intelligent Quartz technology platform with the launch of a “robust and sophisticated” series of timepieces making its debut in Fall 2011. The expanded styles adopting Intelligent Quartz technology have “limitless functional capabilities”, the company said.

The pinnacle timepiece for Fall is the Timex Traveller Series World Time collection, set to be introduced in September 2011. Designed for seasoned travellers and watch connoisseurs alike, the proprietary movement uses microprocessors to simultaneously display the time in 24 cities. The elegant globe on the dial, vintage-inspired font of the indices and curved hands are the design motifs of this timepiece. The colour palette comprises black, blue, silver, dark brown and parchment, and there is a choice of multi-link stainless bracelet or leather strap with croco pattern. The watch is water resistant 50-100 metres.

Launching in July 2011, the Chronograph Compass adventure instrument is built from Timex’s proprietary six-hand Intelligent Quartz movement and features a fly-back four-hour chronograph, electronic compass with magnetic declination compensation and a second time zone in an eye-catching stainless steel case. It is water resistant to 100 metres.

Intelligent Quartz technology is also incorporated on updates to the Timex SL Series and Timex T Series Racing collections. Each collection features fly-back chronograph movements and a second time zone. The design detailing is said to stay true to the originals. The SL Series blends sophistication and sportiness, while the Timex T Series Racing updates continue to take design cues from the bold styling of automotive sports.

Timex will also expand the Intelligent Quartz platform into the women’s category with the launch of the women’s Timex T Series Perpetual Calendar, to be launched in July 2011. The Timex T Series Perpetual Calendar encases a six-hand movement, with sub-dial displays highlighting the month, date and day of the week. Boasting clean, feminine lines, the watch has a Swarovski crystal dial embellishment and is offered in classic colours.

All styles feature the Indiglo night-light.

Additions to the Timex Traveller Series

Also at the 2011 BaselWorld fair, Timex announced the worldwide launch of the women’s chronograph in Traveller Series collection. A key design element is the delicate coin edging featured on the bezel. This ribbed detail frames the defining globe design on the dial. The fashion-forward colour palette includes white, black or crème dials with leather straps with croco-pattern in purple, grey, black and taupe.

The Timex Traveller 3-Hand boasts refined simplicity, the company said, featuring Arabic numbers on the dial and curved hands. A clean profile, easy-to-read face and date window lends this watch a universal appeal. The matching tone-on-tone colours of the dial and the leather strap with croco-pattern is reminiscent of vintage luggage details. The 3-Hand Movement is available in a range of classic colours including black, brown, blue and white.

New Timex Originals Collection models

Timex introduces two vintage-influenced additions to its successful Timex Originals collection: the 1960s and 1940s. Inspired by two key decades in Timex design history, the new Timex Vintage Originals watches fuse iconic and classic design details with contemporary materials to create nostalgic timepieces.

New for 2011, the Timex Originals 1960s Inspiration is an authentic reissue of a dive style watch that first launched in the 1960s. The updated timepiece, crafted from stainless steel, boasts a sporty rotating resin top-ring with a distinctive countdown marking feature. The striking black and blue dials feature high-impact red accents and a luminous fill on the numbers and hands. Perforations in the smooth silicon and bold leather straps are both distinctive sports-driven design motifs of the chic era.

The Timex Originals 1940s Inspiration aims to bring a touch of period elegance to the Originals collection. Inspired by the elegant design details of the 1940s, this timepiece pays homage to this era through typeface, colours, detailing and finish. A rich colour palette includes neutrals, black and polished gold and silver-tone stainless steel. Beautiful details on the hands and a refined numeral font come together on a graceful dial, while a curved-side stainless steel case adds a period touch. Selected styles boast rose or yellow gold-tone cases and dial accents for feminine allure. To enhance the vintage romance of this collection, the cases and bracelets have been tumbled, to give each watch its own time-worn finish. A bracelet construction reminiscent of the era and a chic leather strap with croco-pattern complete this watch’s glamorous features.

The introduction of gold-tone dial accents in selected styles combines elegance and sports-styling. The watch is offered with elegant leather, carbon fibre and silicon straps as well as a refined stainless steel bracelet.

Timex women’s Retrograde: Blending elements of sport-chic with a monochromatic colour palette of ebony, white and polished stainless steel and a slightly oversized 37mm stainless steel case, the collection is feminine with a powerful design edge.
