Social media has emerged as a key unofficial source of information in the digital age. As The Moodie Davitt Report steps up its mission to become ‘the KOL of B2B travel retail publishing’ (a phrase coined by leading Chinese WeChat platform Globuy), our popular weekly feature curates some of the most exciting travel retail industry updates from the social media sphere – and touches on our own contributions.
This week on Instagram… Lotte Duty Free shared a stunning video to celebrate the launch of its new travel-retail exclusive cosmetics brand, Sienu. The luxury anti-aging skincare range — developed jointly with Korean beauty house Amorepacific — was launched as part of the retailer’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Lotte Duty Free also shared the latest episode of its digital ‘K-Wave by Lotte Duty Free’ campaign. Each episode shines the light on different K-beauty brands, which then get reviewed by local celebrities and influencers. This week, South Korean KOLs Hiyena, Yeondukong, and Mingarden reviewed 15 different K-beauty brands.
Meanwhile, World Duty Free is celebrating ‘Great Skin Month’ with British Blogger/Podcaster Monica Beatrice. Beatrice has taken over World Duty Free UK’s Instagram feed to highlight some of the retailer’s ‘gold standard’ skincare products.
Elsewhere in the UK, Manchester Airports showcased the vegan offerings from its food & beverage retailers just before the end of Veganuary. The airport offers a total of 89 vegan menu items across its three terminals from Giraffe, Café Balzar, Caffè Nero, KFC, Costa Coffee, and Greggs.
Finally, Toronto Pearson Airport shared some touching words from Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) CEO Howard Eng who said: “If the right conductor finds the right orchestra at the right time, they can make beautiful music. The CEO of an airport is like a conductor, because they must be an expert integrator. We have over 400 companies that operate here. As CEO, it’s my role to bring all those players together, integrating them.”
Eng, who is now retiring after being appointed as CEO in 2012, continued by saying: “Our journey to become the best airport in the world, it isn’t a sprint. It’s a relay and each of us is running a section of that race. We need dynamic young people to join that race as the industry grows, because many of us may never see the finish line. For me, it is time to pass the baton to the next person, to pass on our dream of being the best.”
In our latest Spotlight Series eZine, we look back at Toronto Pearson’s journey to change its culture and take a new approach to staff, partners and travellers over the past five years.
