This Week on Chinese Social Media: Celebrating Labour Day

CHINA. Our regular column presents a snapshot of retailer promotional activities on Chinese social media, with a focus on promotions centred on the Labour Day holiday.

Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex (HTDF)

HTDF is running several promotions alongside changes to its loyalty points system (CNY30 spend = 1 point) from 1 May.

To celebrate the five-day Labour Day break, HTDF is offering ‘buy 3 get -30% off’ on perfume and cosmetics, up to -50% off selected bestsellers, a free whitening capsule cabin experience for single purchase over CNY5,000, and extra discounts offered jointly with several banks.

The sale features a wide variety of products from Estée Lauder including: Advanced Night Repair Serum 100ml duo at CNY1,163.5; Revitalizing Supreme+ Soft Crème CNY449.4; Micro Essence 200ml CNY405.6 and Nutritious 2-in-1 Cleansing Foam at CNY 144.95.

Other brands highlighted in the sale include: Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Serum at CNY 651.44;  Decorté Prime Latte Lotion CNY149.4; Filorga Optim-Eyes Eye Contour CNY206.04 and Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion 125ml duo CNY233.35.

Fashion items on sale include Marni sneakers at CNY2,380; Marni crossbody bag CNY4,680; Tory Burch top handle bag CNY6,250 and Michael Kors shoulder bag CNY3,600.

Several brands are also partnering with HTDF offering extra gifts. Customers can search for 免税购 (duty free shopping) on Alipay in exchange for a free gift from Lancôme (per spend over CNY1,500 on any Lancôme product) and free Lancaster tote bag (any spend on Lancaster products). Customers can also enjoy a free travel makeup bag for CNY350+ spend on MAC cosmetics, and a free foundation brush for CNY 500+ spend.

Customers who shop with China Construction Bank credit cards via WeChat Pay can enjoy CNY100 off CNY1,000 spend, and CNY200 off CNY2,000 spend. Customers who pay via WeChat Pay using China Everbright Bank credit cards can also enjoy random discounts as high as CNY300 per spend over CNY300. Customers using e-CNY wallet of Bank of China can also enjoy CNY 60 off CNY 500+ spend.

Times DF

Times DF is running a series of promotions across its channels including Times DF x DFS; Times DF VIP; Times DF Global Shop; iDutyFree and Liquor Boutique.

The Times DF x DFS mini program offers up to -50% off cosmetics and perfume, up to -40% on boutique items, and up to -35% off on Japanese whisky. Details of the promotion include Helena Rubinstein Powercell 24H Eye Care 15ml duo at CNY686; Tom Ford eyeshadow pallet CNY385; Jo Malone diffuser CNY380.25 and Gucci Flora perfume CNY646.75.

On the Liquor Boutique mini program, customers can enjoy up to CNY681 off new arrivals until 3 May, and up to -49% off bestsellers until 15 May.

The flash sale includes Speyburn Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky at CNY688; Kweichou Moutai 500ml Year 2017 CNY4,580 and Glenfiddich Gran Cortes XXII Single Malt Scotch Whisky CNY1,880.

At Times DF Mission Hills, the promotion covers cosmetics, perfume, fashion and boutique products. For cosmetics and perfume, customers can enjoy ‘buy 1 get -15% off’ and ‘buy 3 get -25% off’ offers. Also included are discounts on selected spends: CNY88 off CNY2,000; CNY188 off CNY4,000; CNY300 off CNY6,000; and CNY400 off CNY8,000.

Liquor promotions at Times DF offer up to -30% discounts, with an additional CNY30 off CNY 300; CNY100 off CNY1,000; CNY200 off CNY2,000 and CNY300 off CNY3,000. Fashion and boutique promotions offer up to -50% off, with extra loyal points on selected jewellery and watches. The Electronics and Food sale offers discounts as high as -70%.

Details of the promotion include Lancôme Absolue eye cream duo at CNY1054.9; Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation at CNY388.7; Burberry perfume CNY383.5; Anessa sunscreen CNY135.32; Martell Cordon Bleu Extra Old Cognac CNY1,800 and 3x loyalty points; Royal Salute Blended Scotch Whisky 21 Years Old CNY1,019.15; Michael Kors large Soho bag CNY1,664 and Dior Colorquake 1 sunglasses CNY1,325.

CNSC

CNSC has been running two promotions to celebrate Labour Day, catering to the needs of customers staying at home due to pandemic prevention policies and those visiting Hainan in person.

For those who are visiting Hainan, CNSC is running a promotion on its Offshore Duty Free mini program where customers can choose their merchandise before leaving. The promotion offers up to -50% off on selected bestsellers, up to 10x loyalty points, ‘buy 5 get -30%’ off selected new arrivals, and ‘buy 2 get -25% off’ household electrics.

Included in the promotion are: Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer at CNY2,871; Dyson V10 Fluffy Extra CNY2,591; Hennessy Master Blender’s selection No.4 CNY485; Giorgi Armani Designer Lift Foundation CNY298; Gucci sunglasses CNY2,163 and Shiseido Anessa sunscreen CNY208.

For customers who are not visiting Hainan, CNSC Member’s Shop mini program also offers a hassle-free shopping experience, where all goods are delivered to customer’s designated address. The promotion includes: Avène Eau Thermale spray 300ml trio set at CNY199; Chloé perfume CNY439; Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel CNY305 and Rothschild Amancaya dry red wine CNY342.

New members who registered between 30 April and 4 May could receive a cash coupon of CNY30 and visit in-store 1-5 May, 14:00-20:00, for an extra gift.

Sunrise Duty Free

Sunrise Duty Free launched the first round of Labour Day’s promotions across its Hainan, Beijing and Shanghai platforms via its livestream at 19:30 on 29 April, the night before the five-day holiday.

Flash sales at this livestream included a Coach shoulder bag at CNY3,850, La Mer skincare travel set CNY4,558 and Anessa sunscreen CNY187.2.

The second round of promotions ended at 10am on 30 April, with a focus on cosmetics products. It included: Estée Lauder Micro Essence duo at CNY882; La Mer the Lifting and Firming Mask CNY1,310; Clarins sunscreen CNY298; Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud Body Crème CNY502 and Make Up Forever HD Skin foundation CNY254.

The third round of promotions started at 10am on 30 April, covering skincare, cosmetics, perfume, and fashion products.

It included Tom Ford foundation at CNY545; Nars eyeshadow pallet CNY239; Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsule CNY495; Ferragamo tie CNY1,050; Coach belt CNY1,710 and Fendi sunglasses CNY1,350.

China Duty Free Group

CDFG has been running promotions on its Member’s Shop mini program and CDF International mini program to celebrate the long break.

Customers could snatch up cash coupons of CNY40 off CNY 800; CNY120 off CNY1,500; CNY240 off CNY3,000; CNY400 off CNY4,000 1-4 May on the Member’s Shop mini program.

Promotions for mainland customers include Elizabeth Arden white tea body cream at CNY135; Dr. Ci: Labo Super White 377 VC Serum CNY215; Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream duo CNY585; Tous silver pendant at CNY456; Kenzo sunglasses CNY846; Tangle Angel comb duo CNY191; Camus VSOP Borderies CNY471; Good Health Vitamin C Tablets CNY64 and GNC fish oil family pack CNY168.

Global Duty Free (GDF) Premium Plaza

GDF launched its promotional campaign ‘May丽一夏,GDF宠你, (Shop in May to prepare for the best summer look with GDF-exclusive promotions) to celebrate Labour Day. The promotion covers a wide range of categories from cosmetics and liquor to fashion and toys.

Featured products include: ‘buy 1 get -15% off’ and ‘buy 3 get 20% off’ on perfume and cosmetics; CNY60 off CNY300 spend on liquor (no upper limit); ‘buy 2 get 25% off’ boutique; ‘buy 2 get -20% off’ watches and accessories; up to -35% off on glasses/hats and ‘buy 2 get -20% off’ on toys.

The promotion offers up to -50% off including: La Mer the Concentrate Serum 50ml at CNY2,449; By Kilian Black Phantom perfume CNY1,289; Gucci cushion foundation CNY28, and Tom Ford Santal Blush perfume CNY767.

In addition, the first 100 customers to arrive at GDF’s offline outlet on 1 May could enjoy a free gift at the information desk on the ground floor. New members who register via online channels and completed real name verification receive a cash coupon of CNY 50 (valid on 1-8 May).

GDF is also running daily flash sales 1-8 May at 10:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00 on a wide variety of products.

The top 100 customers with the most spend on 1 May 1 and 8 May can also enjoy 88 extra loyalty points. A cash coupon of CNY200 off CNY2,000 spend is also offered and an additional cosmetics/perfume gift box is offered to customers with CNY5,100 spend.

Customers using e-CNY 1-31 May can also enjoy extra discounts of CNY50 off CNY 1,000 spend, CNY300 off CNY3,000 spend, and CNY500 off CNY5,000 spend when using e-CNY wallet from the Bank of Communications and Agricultural Bank of China.

DFS

DFS is running various online and offline promotions on skincare, makeup, perfume, watches, and sunglasses this month in both Macau and Hong Kong.

Included are La Mer skincare set at HK$7,090/MOP7,305; Estée Lauder Advanced night Repair Eye Cream HK$734.59/MOP 870; Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil duo HK$795/MOP 820; Giorgio Armani Power Fabric HK$560/MOP515 and Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil and Doble R Renew & Repair Serum set at HK$2,571.57/MOP2,065.

DFS is also offering exclusive Estée Lauder gift sets at -20% off the regular duty free retail price. Customers purchasing Re-Nutriv Face Cream and Eye Cream setalso receive four Re-Nutriv samples and a makeup bag.

Alternatively, customers can enjoy a makeup bag and seven samples with over MOP2,000 spend on Estée Lauder products, and an extra four samples by spending over MOP2,400. T Galleria members can also enjoy three samples from the Advanced Night Repair line with spend over MOP3,000.

Customers spending MOP1,800 or above on Estée Lauder products at T Galleria by DFS, Macau, Shoppes at Four Seasons can enter a lucky draw for full-size products. Customers with MOP4,000+ spend can also enjoy a free Re-Nutriv facial.

Bvlgari, L’Occitane, and Drunk Elephant are also running promotions at DFS, including free samples and free makeup bags for qualifying spends. Fendi is launching its O’Lock sunglasses at DFS priced between HK$/MOP3,000-4,000 while Citizen is also introducing new products exclusive to DFS.

Payment promotions offered in partnership with WeChat are also available at all DFS stores in Macau. Customers can enjoy a DFS-exclusive favourable exchange rate, CNY60 off CNY4,000 spend and CNY20 off CNY2,000 online with the DFS Macau mini program.

Apart from WeChat, Bank of China is also offering 5% cashback per equivalent CNY500 spend (cashback capped at CNY500 per month) to all customers paying with Bank of China Union Pay credit cards (card number starting with 62) from 1 May to 30 June.

From 30 April to 15 May, customers can also purchase CNY30 e-coupons from UnionPay App (Yunshanfu) or Ctrip App and shop at T Galleria at Four Seasons or City of Dreams to enjoy -5% off (capped at MOP500).

Shinsegae Duty Free

Korean travel retailer Shinsegae has been offering a lucky draw as part of its customer engagement efforts during the holiday. Customers are invited to watch a video clip on its WeChat Official Account and answer the name of the second seaside that appeared in the video.

All customers who had answered the questions correctly on the comments section before 4 May were eligible for a lucky draw on 6 May for Lancôme Absolue toner, Diptyque hair mist, Nars eyeshadow pallet or red packet of CNY50.

Customers can also log onto the Shinsegae official site for an online lucky draw between April 27 and May 4. First prize of the lucky draw is a CNY3,000 e-gift card from Ctrip, with second prize a 20in suitcase by Xiaomi. Other prizes include Innisfree skincare set, Osulloc tea set, travel kit (including passport holder, a notebook and pen) and red packet of random amount.

Lotte Duty Free

Lotte Duty Free is running a lucky draw to enhance customer engagement on its WeChat OA. Customers can follow the WeChat OA, comment below on their recommended overseas destination and the Lotte Duty Free store they would like to visit the most. They then click wow and like at the bottom of the promotional article to enter the lucky draw.

Prizes include DJI Pocket 2; Shiseido sunscreen; 3CE eyeshadow pallet, and a  travel cash coupon of CNY50.
