“The year of hope”: Dufry pledges strong support for Summit of the Americas – A Virtual Experience in April

AMERICAS. Global industry powerhouse Dufry Group is among a growing number of travel retailers to commit to the attendance of senior management and buying teams at the Summit of the Americas – A Virtual Experience, on 5-9 April.

As reported, the all-digital event is being organised by trade associations International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) and Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report (which organised the successful Virtual Travel Retail Expo from 12-16 October). Visitor registration (free to all travel retailers and airport companies) is open at the official event website, which is now live.

Dufry General Manager Sub-Cluster South America Enrique Urioste underlined the importance of the event to travel retail in the Americas and urged support from brands, service companies, other retailers and stakeholders across the industry (see the video on this page).

He said that 2021 represents “the year of hope”, with vaccination programmes underway and an urge among consumers to travel again post-COVID-19.

At the event, he said, “We will bring you best-in-class speakers who will educate you about what is going on in the Americas. You will have all the teams from Dufry and from other board members of ASUTIL [and IAADFS] waiting for you there.

“We need all of your support as individuals and as companies to join us and help us create a new landmark in this year of hope in 2021.”

The event has already attracted the commitment of many other leading travel retailers including: 3Sixty Duty Free, Aer Rianta International, Carisam/Samuel Meisel, Duty Free Americas, Harding Retail, Heinemann Americas, International Shoppes, Island Companies, Lagardère Travel Retail, Motta Internacional, Neutral by Luryx Duty Free Shop, Paradies Lagardère, Provimex, Sineriz Free Shop, Starboard Cruise Services, Stellar Partners, Top Brands International, Windsor Tunnel Duty Free Shop and Zeinal Hermanos, with more to be named soon.

Among the early exhibitors to book are Ferrero, Mondelez, Essence Corp, Monarq Group, Proximo Spirits, Duty Free Global, Zimpex, Spark and Lego, with more to be announced soon.

For exhibitors there are three tiers of virtual packages from which to choose, offering multiple options to display products, deliver brand and product presentations, offer virtual tours of their facilities and showrooms, and connect with buyers.

These spaces will be curated by Virtual Stand & Experience Partner, FILTR. Event sponsorship options are also available through our team.

The Summit is open to airports and all other landlords from travel-related sectors; retailers, food & beverage operators and other commercial service providers; brands, agents & distributors; media and other relevant parties.

More statements of support from leading regional retailers appear below, as does a short video explaining the opportunities that the virtual format presents.
