MIDDLE EAST. Dubai Duty Free’s charitable foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with philanthropic organisation Dubai Cares, which will help raise money for education programmes in developing countries.
Half of the funds collected from Dubai Duty Free Foundation charity boxes located in terminals at Dubai International and Al Maktoum International Airport, and across Dubai, will now be donated to Dubai Cares.
For ten years, Dubai Cares has run education schemes reaching over 16 million beneficiaries in 45 developing countries in partnership with United Nations aid agencies and international and local NGOs.
The three-year agreement was signed by Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Colm McLoughlin, and Dubai Cares CEO H.E. Tariq Al Gurg. The two organisation have worked closely on a number of projects since 2009.
McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to sign this agreement with Dubai Cares who do a fantastic job in identifying and implementing effective human development programmes throughout the world.
“We believe this partnership is the start of something very exciting and we will work closely with Dubai Cares to identify specific initiatives that tie in with our own Foundation’s objectives.”
“It ensures that children and young adults obtain the basic skills required to gain autonomy and independence.”
Al Gurg added: “Providing education to children and young adults is the first stepping stone towards higher education, valuable opportunities, personal development and social success.
“It ensures that children and young adults obtain the basic skills required to gain autonomy and independence. Dubai Duty Free Foundation shares similar values as we do and the partnership will enable us to significantly improve access to quality education in developing countries.”
The Dubai Duty Free Foundation was established in October 2004 and is under the auspices of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority President and Dubai Duty Free Chairman His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
