The Shilla Duty Free celebrates grand opening of Jeju International Airport store

SOUTH KOREA. The Shilla Duty Free today (1 June) celebrated the grand opening of its store at Jeju International Airport, following a soft opening on 1 March.

As reported, Shilla beat off hot competition from its arch-rival, Lotte Duty Free, to win the five-year concession in December. The retailer took over from Hanwha Galleria, which resigned the concession (due to run until April 2019) last year due to the downturn in Chinese tourism caused by the THAAD crisis.

The 409sq m store offers 70 cosmetics, fragrance, liquor and tobacco brands.

Celebratory moments as Shilla marks the Grand Opening by rewarding the first customer today

To celebrate the grand opening, the first customer at the Jeju International Airport store was gifted a flower bouquet and souvenir. The Shilla Duty Free is also running several promotions to welcome travellers.

Customers are able to get Shilla Gold membership at the airport service desk until 3 June. The first 10,000 customers spending over US$100 will receive a gift card worth KRW10,000 (US$9) to spend at the store until 13 June. Those spending over US$1 will receive a scratch-card lottery coupon which offers a guaranteed prize. Prizes include cosmetics products and samples.

Shilla said its new store lifts the shopping experience to the “highest level”

A spokesperson for The Shilla Duty Free commented: “The Shilla Duty Free came up with a new airport store which will lift travellers’ retail experience at Jeju International Airport to the highest level. “The Shilla Duty Free is the biggest duty free operator on the island. As an industry leader, Shilla will continue our contribution to the local tourism industry and a mutually-beneficial relationship between Shilla and the local community.”
