UAE. On Saturday 20 December, Dubai Duty Free celebrated its 25th anniversary in a remarkable manner by generating sales of AED70,990,054.17 (US$19.3 million) in the 24-hour period.

That all-time daily high was a phenomenal +54% higher than the previous record set exactly a year earlier.

This edition of The Moodie Report PLUS reports from Dubai International Airport as we tracked the carnival-like festivities and the growing tension as sales started to climb towards almost unimaginable heights. The final tally would stun even the most bullish projections of Dubai Duty Free management.

And in the evening we joined many of the 57 “˜pioneers’ who were part of the 100-strong workforce that began this incredible journey way back on 20 December, 1983. The anniversary day put the icing on the cake (both literally and metaphorically) of that journey.

It’s a great story of our times. We hope you enjoy it.
