The Moodie Davitt Report x Globuy: Highlights from our #TimeForTravel Column; Major developments from CNSC

London Gatwick Airport reopened its North Terminal on 15 June, with flights from easyJet, Wizz Air, Ryanair, Belavia, Vueling and Blue Island

As part of our pioneering information-sharing agreement with leading Chinese consumer platform Globuy, a selection of our stories with key Moodie Davitt brand partners appears on Globuy’s weekly Duty Free News Flash column.

Globuy is owned by Chinese digital travel retail platform TripurX, which has over 1 million followers across two social media platforms. Globuy aims to become ‘the KOL of Chinese travel retail,’ and boasts 1.5 million monthly views for its WeChat social media platform promoting new launches, promotions, special offers and other travel retail-related news.

As a Preferred Media Partner, Globuy will be in attendance at the inaugural Virtual Travel Retail Expo in October, bringing news from all exhibitors to its vast Chinese readership.

As reported, Globuy’s parent company, TripurX has recently signed a renewable one-year contract with China Duty Free Group (CDFG) to enhance the Chinese travel retailer’s online promotion capabilities.

This week, Globuy shared some highlights from our #TimeForTravel column, where we bring regular updates on how airports, airlines, travel retailers and brands are planning for and investing in a recovery after COVID-19.

It reported on the reopening of Gatwick Airport and Phuket International Airport; and the increase of services by EasyJet, Malaysian Airlines, Air France and Norwegian Airlines to name a few.

Globuy also recapped some of the latest travel retail stores around the world that are opening their doors again. Dubai Duty Free has begun a partial reopening of its stores, beginning with those in Concourse B–West at Dubai International Airport (DXB).

The world’s leading airport retailer at a single location closed on 25 March, following the UAE government’s suspension of flights.

Globuy also shared our story on Munich Airport retail subsidiary Eurotrade, which has reopened four of its shops at the Bavarian gateway. The retailer opened one of its MyDutyFree shops, a MyCorner convenience store and luxury boutiques from Hermès and Rolex.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lagardère Travel Retail continued its reopening drive across Italian airports. After resuming operations in its Aelia Duty Free store at Rome Fiumicino Airport, the retailer has now reopened its main duty free store at Venice Marco Polo Airport as well.

(Left) Eurotrade Director of Purchasing & Category Management Nils Schirmer said: “It was a small but very important step back to normality for our partners and for us.”; (Centre) Lagardère staff are primed to deliver customer service in a safe fashion.

Globuy also shared welcome news from China as China National Service Corporation (CNSC) reopened its downtown duty free store in the heart of Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province.

The upgraded shop, which opened on 18 June, offers a new concept that radiates central China with Zhengzhou as its centre, CNSC said. The retailer said the new-look store will provide a better duty free shopping experience for Chinese travellers returning from abroad.

CNSC also launched a major marketing promotion, as duty free shopping in China continues to rebound from COVID-19. Several of the retailer’s downtown duty free stores participated in the Mid-Year Duty Free Carnival, which ran throughout the month of June.

The latest information on CNSC’s plans to open and renovate further stores in the near future was also shared by Globuy.

The retailer will open a near 1,800sq m, post-arrivals duty free store in Beijing FUN (北京坊) – an extraordinary two-phased commercial and cultural development just 100 metres away from Tiananmen Square and adjacent to the National Palace Museum, National Grand Theatre, National Museum and other renowned cultural institutions. The Moodie Davitt Report Chairman Martin Moodie will be providing exclusive on-location coverage of the opening later this year.
