The Moodie Davitt eZine: The power of prestige spirits and ARI’s contract coup in Portugal

INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to The Moodie Davitt eZine, Travel Retail’s LookBook. In this issue we report on how Bacardi Global Travel Retail (GTR) continues its drive to recruit new whisky explorers and enthusiasts in China, led by its presence in the Hainan offshore duty free market.

The drinks company has just launched Teeling Whiskey – The Vintage Reserve Collection exclusively with China Duty Free Group (CDFG) in Hainan, as we report in these pages, amid a further deepening of Bacardi’s commitment to the China market.

We also report on other eye-catching projects and developments in the China market over the Lunar New Year period and since.

On Thursday we broke the news that ANA Aeropuertos de Portugal had named Aer Rianta International (ARI) as its joint-venture partner for duty free and duty paid retail concessions across Portugal’s airports from 1 June. In a follow-up interview, we speak with ARI Chief Executive Ray Hernan about the ambitions for retail at the Portuguese airports and the significance of the contract for the company.

In a separate feature, ARI addresses the opportunity presented by the duty free regime between EU states such as Ireland and the UK, with reduced pricing and generous allowances on UK routes fuelling the spirits business in particular.

We are also pleased to bring readers our regular thought-provoking columns in association with Mars-Wrigley and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
