The Moodie Davitt eZine: Brand DXB is born

Wherever you tread, your footsteps bud into great actions

And whatever ideas you say… they take to the sky and spread their wings

Welcome to The Moodie Davitt eZine – Travel Retail’s Lookbook. The above poem, written by Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (known fondly as ‘Fazza’) and taken from ‘The Sage wisdom’, neatly encapsulates the sentiments behind Dubai International Airport’s rebranding as DXB.

At a spectacular launch event in mid-February, Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths described the move as a “fresh direction to transform DXB into the airport of the future, one that is led by a more customer-centric approach, that incorporates the hospitality, excitement, warmth and true spirit of Dubai”.

The Moodie Davitt Report was present for the launch allowing Martin Moodie to go behind the scenes of the rebranding, gathering the highly articulate thoughts of both Griffiths and Dubai Airports Executive Vice President – Commercial Eugene Barry.

Elsewhere in the issue, we explore the importance of art and music in elevating the passenger experience at two dynamic US airports – Pittsburgh International and Austin-Bergstrom – in our regular Airports as Artports and Sense of Place columns.

AS Watson Group’s integrated online and offline strategy for penetrating specific demographics or entering new markets is in the spotlight in Travel Retail’s Positive Disruptors, while we profile HMSHost Foundation’s mission to reduce poverty in the USA in Duty Calls.

In The Front Line, our column celebrating excellence in customer service, Dufry’s Kimesha Humphrey-Patrick says a Steve Jobs quote embodies her attitude to working at the company: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
